Macron Praises G7 Summit Results, Highlighting Cooperation on Ukraine, Global Health, and Supply Chain Resilience

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the G7 summit held in Évian-les-Bains. Macron highlighted the adoption of nine declarations addressing various issues, including the fight against cancer, international development cooperation, Ebola, and drug smuggling. He stated that achieving such concrete progress in such a short period was “historical.”

Macron explained that the strong collaboration evident in the summit was crucial for responding to the numerous global crises. To that end, countries such as India, Brazil, Egypt, and Kenya, along with representatives of international organizations, were invited to participate.

Regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine, the French president reported that the group agreed on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and expanding long-range capacities. Furthermore, there will be increased support aimed at expanding the country’s energy infrastructure.

The G7 nations also indicated a desire to diversify their supply chains, specifically seeking to lessen dependence on areas like the Strait of Hormuz. Macron stressed the importance of the unanimous support among all G7 members for these decisions, noting the interconnectedness of these issues-mentioning the Strait of Hormuz, Lebanon, and the potential threat posed by nuclear and ballistic dangers originating from the region.
