Philipp Nimmermann is set to join the board of the Bundesbank. The former State Secretary, who served under Economy Minister Robert Habeck of the Green Party, is expected to succeed Burkhard Balz, according to reports from the “Handelsblatt” citing government circles in Baden-Württemberg.
Balz, a veteran CDU European politician, will conclude his tenure in August. Two people familiar with the matter told the “Handelsblatt” that the leadership of the coalition in the region, composed of the Greens and the CDU, agreed over the weekend to propose Nimmermann for the position.
Nimmermann is a member of the Green Party and is the preferred candidate of Baden-Württemberg’s Finance Minister, Danyal Bayaz, who is responsible for staffing the position. Before entering politics, where he previously worked in Berlin, Hesse, and Schleswig-Holstein, Nimmermann spent 15 years working for BHF-Bank (now Oddo BHF), including serving as Chief Economist.
