Galeria Seeks Political and Social Support for Survival and Transformation Amid Tough Market Conditions

Bernd Beetz, a co-owner of the Galeria department store chain, has announced a new concept for the company’s branches and is now calling for support from political figures and social partners following the approval of a rescue credit.

Speaking to “Bild” (Friday edition), Beetz stated that while the credit approval allows Galeria to continue operations, the situation remains tightly controlled. He emphasized that the next crucial step is to find viable solutions in collaboration with politicians, store locations, landlords, and other stakeholders. “Our strategy is in place, but executing it under these difficult circumstances represents a massive undertaking.”

According to Beetz, the decline or closure of Galeria would lead to many city centers losing “tangible attractiveness and vitality.” Therefore, establishing a sustainable future requires the involvement of politicians, city administrations, landlords, and social partners.

He noted that while the loan has secured the company’s short-term survival, the priority is creating a long-term and stable future perspective. This goal indirectly signals the implementation of a modernization program and a completely new retail concept. “We now have the chance to further implement our strategies,” Beetz added, specifying plans around modular floor space concepts, engaging new partners, and significantly improving product range.
