Greens Demand Coalition Action to Overhaul Germany’s Taxes and Crisis Preparedness

Frau Franziska Brantner, the leader of the Greens, has called on both the Union and the SPD to deliver concrete results from the Coalition Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday. Speaking to the newspapers of the Funke Media Group, Brantner stated, “No one needs yet another informal internal round.”

The Green co-chair emphasized that delaying announced reforms is detrimental to everyone involved. She directly challenged Friedrich Merz and Lars Klingbeil, demanding they prove their ability to solve crises rather than accepting the role of “scarcity managers.”

Among the specific issues discussed by the coalition partners is the reform of the personal income tax. Brantner advocated for tax relief for small and medium-income earners. Furthermore, she stressed the need to address “justice gaps” in inheritance tax, ensure that US tech giants are taxed properly, and regulate cryptocurrency profits.

For Brantner, the Coalition Council represents a critical opportunity to correct the current course. She asserted that Germany requires a policy direction that makes the country “more resilient to crises and fairer.”
