Pakistan Launches Cross-Border Strikes on Afghanistan Amid Terror Accusations and Civilian Casualties

Pakistan conducted military strikes against Afghan provinces situated along their shared border on Sunday, deploying both aerial attacks and ground troops. According to Pakistan, the operation resulted in the deaths of at least 29 “terrorists.”

The Afghan Taliban government strongly denounced the action, labeling it a “cowardly deed,” a “crime,” and an “atrocity.” They reported that the attacks had killed or injured at least 100 people, many of whom were civilians.

Pakistan’s Minister of Information, Attaullah Tarar, justified the operation as a response to “recent terrorist attacks against innocent people.” Pakistan has long accused Afghanistan of harboring terrorists who launch attacks within Pakistan. Conversely, the Taliban government has rejected these accusations.

Kabul countered by accusing Islamabad of carrying out unprovoked assaults that result in civilian casualties. Pakistan maintains that its operations are exclusively aimed at combating militant targets.
