Left Party Challenges New Social Security Law, Citing Constitutional Violations and Need for Better Support

The Green Left party (Die Linke) intends to take legal action against the new basic security regulations. According to party leader Ines Schwerdtner, they are currently examining a constitutional complaint, citing a 2019 judgment by the Federal Constitutional Court, which already ruled that the policy unduly penalizes people and violates the constitution.

Schwertdtner further criticized the reform, stating that it particularly worsens the situation for single parents and other vulnerable groups. Instead of implementing tougher sanctions, she emphasized that there is a greater need for better-equipped job centers, more language courses, and improved childcare to help affected individuals return to employment.
