AfD Candidate Rejects CDU Coalition, Vows ‘Solutions’ in Saxony-Anhalt

Ulrich Siegmund, the AfD’s top candidate for the state election in Saxony-Anhalt this September, has stated that he does not wish to enter a coalition with the CDU. Speaking to Phoenix at an AfD party event in Erfurt, Siegmund told the television channel that he cannot save Germany with a party that has, for the last twenty or thirty years, knowingly driven the country into ruin across all sectors. He asserted that the CDU has changed dramatically, saying, “they are sliding further and further to the left.” Consequently, he is not interested in “political maneuvering and power arrangements”; rather, his focus is entirely on finding solutions. In his home state, the AfD currently polls above 40 percent. Therefore, he emphasized, “the course is very clear: 45 plus X.” Looking at the national political landscape, Siegmund noted that things may look different in the long term, adding that “one has to wait and see how that develops.”
