During the qualification session for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Kimi Antonelli secured pole position on Saturday, following his earlier victory in the sprint race. This marks not only his fifth pole of the current season but also his first pole position in his Formula 1 career. The Mercedes driver achieved the fastest lap time with a performance of 1:28.111, effectively placing him ahead of his rivals. Charles Leclerc demonstrated a strong run through the first sector; however, he was unable to pass Antonelli and had to settle for second place behind him. Lewis Hamilton, who was also considered a favorite, could not execute an optimal lap and finished behind Leclerc.
The qualifying began with competitive exchanges between various teams. Mercedes made an early statement when Antonelli set the fastest time in Q2. His teammate, George Russell, followed closely in second position, while both Ferrari drivers were two tenths of a second behind the best time. The Red Bull drivers also managed to qualify for Q3, though Max Verstappen found himself trailing his teammate Isack Hadjar.
In Q1, the young Red Bulls surprised the field by taking the lead. Isack Hadjar led the field ahead of Liam Lawson, with Leclerc following as the most senior Ferrari driver. Nico Hülkenberg delivered a solid performance to secure fourth place. Conversely, some drivers, including Alonso, Stroll, and Perez, saw their qualifying sessions conclude early after failing to make it into the top 15.
The session was not without incidents. Russell briefly caused yellow flags when he left the track in Corner 7, though he continued driving and managed to qualify for the subsequent round. Similarly, Antonelli experienced a minor slip in Q2 but quickly recovered to lock down pole position.
