In a thrilling qualifying session in Budapest, Lando Norris secured pole position. The McLaren driver edged out Lewis Hamilton with a time of 1:17.207, leaving Hamilton just 0.012 seconds behind in second place. This marks the first of the season for a pole position secured by a driver not from Mercedes.
The qualifying began with a strong performance from Max Verstappen of Red Bull, who initially took the lead. However, he was unable to improve his pace throughout the session and eventually dropped back to sixth place. George Russell faced technical difficulties and had to pull his Mercedes off track at Turn 1, eliminating his chances of a strong placement.
During the decisive phase, Lewis Hamilton initially moved to the forefront before Lando Norris took control with a remarkable lap. Charles Leclerc and Andrea Kimi Antonelli also delivered strong performances, finishing just behind the two frontrunners.
