Green Politician Slams Merz for Lack of Empathy and Unfair Burden Distribution

Green politician and former party leader Ricarda Lang has heavily criticized Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), arguing that he fundamentally lacks understanding and empathy for the people across the country. Lang told newspapers associated with the Funke Media Group that many individuals recognize the need for systemic change and wish for it, but progress is failing due to a government unable to muster even a degree of sympathy for those most affected by current transformations. “Instead, we are witnessing the Chancellor yet again in his complete absence of empathy,” she stated.

The Green politician pointed out a sharp disconnect: while countless families in Germany struggle, exhausted from juggling two jobs and childcare duties while chasing rising rents, the Chancellor appears to be delivering public rebukes. She highlighted issues like criticizing fathers for being too lazy or mothers for being frequently ill. “When Friedrich Merz looks at rural Germany, he looks down-at 83.5 million people who are apparently not good enough for him,” Lang asserted. She concluded that this attitude prevents any effective governance, adding that she sincerely wishes Merz would learn to truly care about the people he claims to represent.

Beyond compassion, Lang believes that successful reforms require a concrete plan and a fairer distribution of societal burdens. She specifically mentioned young families who feel increasingly pressured to work more and more, yet still struggle to build any sort of financial security. These families then have to watch as others inherit hundreds of apartments without even having to pay inheritance tax. “This is deeply anti-performance-based and unfair,” Lang argued. “The common people are expected to tighten their belts, while a select few are having their belt buckles gilded: Naturally, that is going to backfire.”
