Linken Leader Slams Friedrich Merz for Being Out of Touch with Reality

Ines Schwerdtner, the head of the Linke party (The Left), criticized Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz for being out of touch with reality following his political statement. Speaking to RTL and ntv on Thursday, Schwerdtner stated, “Honestly, I don’t know what world Friedrich Merz is living in.” She pointed out the discrepancy between Merz’s optimistic view of economic development and the reality on the ground, noting that thousands of people were protesting at VW because 100,000 jobs were at risk. She questioned why Merz remained completely silent on the matter.

Furthermore, Schwerdtner sharply challenged the Chancellor’s evaluation of the NATO summit. Calling his presentation “just beautifying the situation,” she said that Merz was presenting an overly positive view. She highlighted several negative global developments, including Donald Trump appearing as a tyrant, unilaterally ending trade with Spain, and reigniting war with Iran. Schwerdtner concluded that these events were not good news, and she found Merz’s attempt to gloss over them completely incomprehensible.
