France secured a 2-0 victory against Morocco in the World Cup quarter-finals. The French side dominated the match from the very beginning; while they had the opportunity to take the lead in the first half, Kylian Mbappé’s penalty was ultimately saved by Morocco’s goalkeeper, Bono.
Although Bono appeared to be having a very strong day, his efforts were not enough during the second period. Mbappé broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, unleashing a curling shot from the penalty area that found the far corner for the 1-0 lead. Ousmane Dembélé quickly doubled the advantage just six minutes later, scoring the 2-0 goal after collecting the ball just outside the halfway line and blasting it from 18 meters out.
Morocco struggled throughout the game to find their rhythm and manage meaningful attacking opportunities. Although Ounahi managed a header from a corner that narrowly missed the outside of the net, his attempts from distance posed little threat to French keeper Maignan. Despite the North Africans trying to apply more pressure in the second half, France maintained control and determined the match’s outcome.
With this important win, France advances to the semi-finals, where they are scheduled to face the winner of the match between Spain and Belgium on Tuesday.
