Bayer Leverkusen secured a decisive victory over SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, winning 4-0. The “Werkself” showcased their class from the start, taking the lead shortly before halftime through Patrik Schick. Lucas Vázquez doubled the advantage in the 47th minute. Nathan Tella and Christian Kofane cemented the final score with goals in the 69th and 79th minutes.
Meanwhile, FC Augsburg faced Energie Cottbus and also emerged victorious, with a 2-0 win. Anton Kade scored the opening goal in the 49th minute, managing to beat himself through in the penalty area and slot the ball into the lower left corner. Cottbus subsequently pressed for an equalizer but was repeatedly thwarted by the Augsburg defense. Although Cottbus played a fiercely competitive match and held firm, especially in the first half, holding the upper hand with better early opportunities, they lacked the necessary penetration to overturn the momentum after Augsburg took the lead. Augsburg skillfully defended their narrow advantage and sealed the victory with a goal from Kristijan Jakic just as the final whistle blew.
