Wildberger Easing Truck Bans on Regional Holidays to Boost Commerce and Logistics Flow

Federal Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger (CDU) has announced a new regulation regarding truck driving bans on public holidays. Speaking to the show “Frühstart” on RTL and ntv on Wednesday, Wildberger stated that these bans will apply exclusively to federally uniform holidays.

He criticized the current system, explaining that because holidays vary across different states, the existing situation creates a patchwork regulation. This inconsistency, he noted, currently forces trucks to halt at state boundaries-a situation that accumulates to approximately 100,000 truck journeys annually. The CDU politician characterized this practice as unmanageable and costly, concluding that the solution is a sensible step forward.

Although this reform may mean increased traffic for private drivers on the autobahns, Wildberger emphasized that the primary goal is to guarantee that products remain available in supermarkets. His focus is on ensuring the smooth operation of the freight sector.
