A majority of Germans are in favor of extending the current fuel subsidy, according to a survey conducted by the polling institute Forsa. The findings were reported by the broadcasting channels RTL and ntv, who commissioned the study.
Specifically, 56 percent of respondents approve of maintaining the tax reduction on gasoline and diesel at nearly 17 cents per liter, while 37 percent oppose the extension.
Furthermore, most of the people surveyed (60 percent) believe that the prices for gasoline and diesel will remain at their current high level in the future. An additional 23 percent anticipate that the prices will continue to rise further. Only a small minority (11 percent) expect significant price reductions for either fuel type. The survey was carried out on July 13 and 14, interviewing a total of 1,001 people.
