German MP Demands Reinstatement of Ukrainian Defense Minister, Citing Corruption Fears and Power Struggle

Anton Hofreiter, the chairman of the European Committee in the German Bundestag (Green Party), has called for the reinstatement of the dismissed Ukrainian Defence Minister, Mychajlo Fedorow. Hofreiter told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” that the situation in Ukraine represents a “hard power struggle.”

He suggested that President Zelenskyy may be trapped by old and corrupt networks within the Ukrainian military. Hofreiter emphasized that Fedorow was not only highly successful but was also “known for being incorruptible.”

He appealed to the German coalition government, urging Berlin to apply pressure to ensure Fedorow’s return, stating that Zelenskyy had committed a “serious mistake.” This sentiment is echoed by Defence Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD), who previously voiced his displeasure. Pistorius sent a letter to Fedorow, which was obtained by the RND, stating, “I deeply regret that you are not continuing your work, and I hope that you remain politically active.”

The dismissal of Fedorow has since triggered widespread protests across Ukraine.
