SPD General Secretary Tim Klüssendorf is calling for alternative solutions instead of implementing proposed cuts to housing and parental benefits. Speaking to the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” (NOZ), Klüssendorf insisted that these government reduction proposals must be meticulously reviewed by parliament.
He raised the question of whether savings were being achieved in the appropriate areas, or if the benefits could maintain their current structure. It is now up to the Bundestag to clarify these issues. Klüssendorf noted that the government initially submitted the suggested cuts to the housing allowance and parental allowance. Therefore, the political parties will now conduct a very detailed examination to determine if these changes are truly sensible and targeted, and whether superior alternatives can be found before the Federal Budget is finalized.
