Public opinion in Germany is divided regarding the prohibition of surrogacy. This conclusion comes from an Insa survey, conducted on behalf of the newspaper “Bild” between July 17 and 20, 2026, which polled 1,004 participants.
Overall, 41% of respondents believe that surrogacy should not be banned in Germany, while 39% find that the ban is appropriate. The remaining 20% either offered no comment or did not know the answer.
When broken down by political affiliation, differing views emerged across the spectrum. Among Union supporters, 47% believe the ban is correct, a sentiment shared by 48% of SPD voters. Conversely, 49% of FDP voters consider the ban incorrect, as do 47% of Die Linke voters and 42% of AfD voters.
The Green party exhibited a balanced view, with 43% supporting the ban and 43% opposing it. Among BSW voters, the opinion remained split, with 32% finding the ban incorrect and 30% finding it correct.
