Tech Stocks Lead Mixed US Market Recovery as Wall Street Awaits Quarterly Earnings

The U.S. stock markets experienced mixed developments on Monday. As trading concluded in New York, the Dow closed at 51,839 points, marking a decrease of 0.6 percent compared to the previous day. Earlier in the day, the broader S&P 500 stood around 7,445 points, down 0.2 percent, while the technology-focused Nasdaq 100 finished close to 28,605 points, slightly in positive territory.

Investors began to turn back towards technology stocks following the recent sell-off in the semiconductor sector. However, Wall Street is expected to maintain a close watch this week on the quarterly earnings reports of tech giants, including Alphabet, Tesla, Intel, and IBM.

In currency markets, the European common currency weakened slightly by Monday evening; the Euro traded at 1.1416 US dollars, corresponding to the dollar costing 0.8760 Euros.

Gold prices showed a decline, with fine ounces fetching $4,009 by the evening, a drop of 0.2 percent. This equated to a price of 112.89 Euros per gram. Conversely, the oil price saw a significant rise. A barrel of Brent crude oil cost $88.99 as of 10 PM Central European Time on Monday, which was an increase of 1.0 percent or 89 cents from the previous trading day’s close.
