Miersch Values Political Trust and ‘Honest Dialogues’ Lost with Spahn’s Exit

Matthias Miersch, the chairman of the SPD parliamentary group, stated that he will miss the departing CDU politician Jens Spahn due to their shared “honest conversations.” Speaking to the magazine Focus, Miersch recalled that they spent many hours together during negotiations on the reform package, stating that this period allowed political trust to develop between them. According to the Social Democrat, the details discussed during these meetings remained confidential among those involved, and this secrecy laid the foundation for their frank discussions. “That is worth a great deal in political Berlin, and I will miss that,” he added.

Miersch expressed his expectation for a trusting working relationship with Spahn’s successor. He emphasized the importance of maintaining constructive and confident cooperation. He pointed out that the country faces massive modernization challenges, necessitating a functional and agile coalition leadership. For him, building trust and getting to know colleagues outside the daily pressures of politics is crucial for achieving this stability.
