German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) spoke by phone with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Wednesday afternoon. This was reported by government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius. The two leaders discussed the current situation in the Near East, as well as Russia’s war against Ukraine and the subsequent effects on the South Caucasus. According to Kornelius, the Chancellor encouraged further steps in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stressing the importance of this process for regional stability. Both leaders highlighted the opportunities for expanding bilateral ties and strengthening Armenia’s relationship with the European Union.
