Amid discussions about a potential cabinet reshuffle, the CSU is calling for Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt to retain his current position. According to Alexander Hoffmann, the CSU regional group head, Dobrindt is an “excellent Federal Interior Minister.” Hoffmann, speaking to the “Bild” (Friday edition), argued that this view must be considered from the CSU’s perspective, asserting that Dobrindt is simply the best minister in the cabinet. He added that since Dobrindt is carrying out the promised “policy shift,” it would be wise to keep him in the role of Interior Minister. Separately, Thorsten Frei, currently the Chancellor’s Minister, is being discussed as a potential successor to Freis in the Chancellery, due to his planned move to lead the CDU’s parliamentary group.
