Wolfgang Kubicki, the head of the FDP, has criticized the potential reorganization of the cabinet under Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). Kubicki argues that if Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU) were to switch to the Chancellor’s office and CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann were to assume control of the Health Ministry, the move would be politically difficult to justify.
Speaking to the Funke media group, Kubicki suggested that replacing the Health Minister before she could demonstrate the practical success of the reforms she successfully passed through parliament would only be politically acceptable if Friedrich Merz found himself in a desperate situation.
He also voiced regrets regarding the potential role for Carsten Linnemann. While acknowledging that Linnemann maintained the party’s core beliefs and represented the views of its voters as Secretary General, Kubicki concluded that he would likely find little satisfaction in the role within a coalition dominated by social-democratic forces.
These comments follow media reports indicating that Warken might move to the Chancellor’s office and Linnemann might take over the Health Ministry, although there has been no official confirmation of the proposed changes.
