Federal government representatives have offered their condolences following the fatal attack that occurred during the Berlin CSD. Alexander Dobrindt (CSU), the Federal Interior Minister, expressed profound distress in the early hours of Sunday, stating, “This cowardly, atrocious attack on peacefully celebrating people deeply shocks me.”
A spokesperson for the ministry confirmed that Dobrindt is maintaining close contact with both the federal and Berlin state security authorities. He said he is continuously receiving updates on the situation in Berlin and has pledged the full support of the federal government to the city. Earlier, Friedrich Merz (CDU) had also denounced the incident as an “atrocious act.”
The attack took place on Saturday evening when an individual operating a small van drove into a gathering of celebratory people. At least one person was killed, and 16 others were injured, including three who sustained severe injuries.
