Vandalism at CSD Memorial: State Security Probes After Attack Fire in Berlin Aftermath

Unidentified individuals are suspected of committing vandalism at a memorial site following the attacks that took place during Berlin’s Christopher Street Day.

According to the Berlin Police, a witness near Ahornsteig reported seeing “a destroyed vase and a presumably lit cardboard heart.” The property damage was reported at approximately 1:50 PM. The State Criminal Police Office’s specialized police protection unit has taken over the investigation into this incident.

This occurred in the aftermath of the major attack on Saturday evening, when 21-year-old Abdul B. drove a vehicle through the Tiergarten, where many CSD participants were gathered. His apparent intent was to hit as many people as possible. After crashing into a tree, he then went on to attack people with a machete.

The attack resulted in one woman’s death, with 31 other individuals sustaining varied degrees of serious injuries. The attacker was later shot during a police operation on Sunday.
