Selenskyj-Trump Meet Focuses on Peace, Renewed Diplomacy, and Ukrainian Defense

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed satisfaction following his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, describing the encounter as “a good meeting.” Following the discussion, he stated on the X platform (formerly Twitter): “Thank you for everything we are doing together to protect the lives of Ukrainians and advance peace.”

During the meeting, Zelensky first offered his condolences to Trump regarding the death of Lindsey Graham, adding that Graham was “a true friend of Ukraine.” Furthermore, they discussed topics such as licenses for the production of Patriot interceptors and several other ideas that could be helpful.

Diplomacy was also a central theme. Zelensky emphasized, “It is important that the diplomatic process is revived. Our teams will arrange the details of further communication. I am grateful to the United States for its steadfast support.”

The notion of “diplomacy” had previously caused intense arguments during Zelensky’s visit to the White House last year. At that time, when he addressed Vice President Mike Pence, asking, “What diplomacy, JD, are you referring to? What do you mean by that?” he was reportedly sharply challenged by Trump and Vance.
