Greens Push EU for Inclusive Middle East Peace Talks, Denounce Israeli Settlements

In the context of the parliamentary elections in Israel, the Green Party has called upon the federal government to engage in new negotiations within the European Union aimed at resolving the Middle East conflict. According to a motion submitted by the Green Parliamentary Group, reported by the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”, it is specifically demanded that the active involvement of women and voices from civil society be secured.

The motion further asserts that the ongoing terror perpetrated by the Islamist Hamas cannot be overcome solely through military force. It urges the international community to take measures to prevent the triumph of those forces that preach and practice contempt for humanity, hatred, and violence, arguing instead that all efforts should be directed toward supporting the forces in the region committed to ending violence and achieving political balance.

In response to the settlement construction promoted by the current Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu, the Greens advocate for a complete prohibition on importing goods originating from illegally built Israeli settlements in the occupied territories. The party demands that the federal government pressure the EU to adopt a resolution on this matter, pointing out that illegal settlement construction increasingly renders a two-state solution impossible.

Furthermore, the submission states that the German government must not continue to block the partial suspension of the EU association agreement. It also calls for the reintroduction of arms export restrictions. Regarding the Palestinian Authority, the party urges that timely elections and thorough democratic and rule-of-law reforms be pushed forward. Overall, the Greens support the two-state solution while unequivocally emphasizing the right of Israel to exist.
