The United States reported new attacks from Iran on US bases during the night leading into Wednesday. The US Central Command stated on the platform X that at 5:45 PM ET, units from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired several ballistic missiles to execute a surprise attack on US forces stationed in the Middle East. All the Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted. US forces continued to confirm that they remain vigilant and are at the highest alert level.
A short time later, the US Central Command announced that joint strikes were carried out alongside Saudi Arabian forces on July 28 in Iraq. These operations involved “precision strikes against terrorists allied with Iran,” according to the US Army. The US military stated that these terrorists were allegedly instructed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to attack US forces and Saudi Arabian energy infrastructure. Fighter jets from the US and Saudi Arabia targeted several logistical and weapons sites of the terrorists in eastern Iraq.
The oil market reacted sharply to these events. On Wednesday morning, around 7 AM German time, a barrel of North Sea Brent crude was priced at 87.24 US dollars, marking an increase of 3.8 percent over the close of the previous trading day.
