A man died late Friday evening in the Saxon Switzerland region following severe weather. According to authorities, the fatality occurred in Rathen, where the man was struck and killed by a tree.
At least three other individuals sustained serious injuries, and search efforts continued into the evening as several people remained missing. The darkness significantly complicated the work of emergency responders. A police helicopter was deployed to search for the missing persons using a thermal imaging camera.
The German Weather Service had previously issued warnings for parts of Saxony and beyond regarding strong thunderstorms. This advisory covered the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district, specifically cautioning residents about lightning strikes, falling trees, and airborne debris.
