Werner Graf, the top candidate for the Berlin Green Party, labeled the conversational offer proposed by CDU leader Stefan Evers as “a little late.” Graf told newspapers from the Mediengruppe Bayern that while his party has always been open to discussions with democratic parties from the outset, the timing of the offer is delayed now that the Greens have decided to begin coalition negotiations with the Left Party and the SPD. He also commented generally on the CDU’s strategy, noting, “It all seems a little unplanned.”
CDU chief Stefan Evers had recently announced his intention to offer preliminary exploratory talks to both the Greens and the SPD, scheduled for November 3rd. Through this move, the CDU aims to prevent a red-green-red coalition in the capital city. Meanwhile, the Left Party, the Greens, and the SPD have already completed their preliminary discussions and plan to start formal coalition negotiations next Monday, following the expected endorsement at the Left Party assembly scheduled for Saturday.
