Veronika Grimm expressed her strong disapproval regarding the discussion about maintaining the retirement age at 63. According to her statements to the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”, she noted that the current structure of the pension reform already places excessive strain on the younger generation, and that eliminating the option of retiring at 63 would further undermine the reform’s effectiveness. Grimm argued that instead of scaling back elements of the proposed reform, comprehensive changes were necessary. She maintained that the coalition’s initial plans were far from sufficient to guarantee the financial sustainability of the statutory pension insurance. With the recent decisions regarding the “holding line,” she stated that the parties had moved “very far in the wrong direction.” The coalition had previously established a statutory minimum pension level of 48 percent, set to remain in effect until 2031, within the first pension package planned for 2025.
