JU-Chef Supports Ilse Aigner for President, Urges Strict Implementation of Pension Reform

Johannes Winkel, chairman of the Young Union, highlighted two key issues while speaking. Regarding the presidency, he called Ilse Aigner, a member of the CSU, an “excellent candidate” for Federal President. He explained that Aigner possesses outstanding qualities and enjoys widespread approval, noting that both the SPD and the Green Party have offered highly complimentary remarks about her. In his view, this makes her an excellent candidate that the parties should jointly put forward.

Winkel also strongly advocated for the complete, one-to-one implementation of the pension reform. He reminded the public that a full agreement on the matter was reached during the summer by various parties, including Friedrich Merz, Bärbel Bas, and the entire coalition committee alongside Lars Klingbeil, confirming the consensus during late summer.

He connected the need for execution to public trust in politics, arguing that there is a significant opportunity for politicians to restore the confidence of the younger generation in the ability of the system to act and represent their interests. He emphasized that this opportunity must be seized.

His call for strict implementation mirrors comments made by Matthias Miersch, the SPD faction leader, who stressed the necessity of fully implementing the pension package at a recent leadership meeting. Winkel echoed this sentiment, stating clearly that if politicians announce policies, they must follow through. He warned that failure to deliver promises is what causes the public to lose faith in the political system.
