According to preliminary results released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Thursday, the service sector in Germany generated more revenue in May 2026 than in April 2026. Seasonally and calendar-adjusted, the real revenue increased by 1.5 percent, while the nominal increase stood at 1.9 percent. Comparing May to the same month last year, revenue rose by 3.5 percent in real terms and 6.1 percent in nominal terms.
Among the largest real growth contributors in May 2026 compared to the previous month were freelance, scientific, and technical services, which saw a rise of 2.4 percent. Following closely were real estate and housing services, which gained 2.3 percent. Increases of 2.1 percent were recorded in the information and communication sector, and transportation and warehousing saw a 2.0 percent increase against the previous month.
In contrast, the revenue for other economic services-such as the rental of movable goods and employment agency services-declined by 0.3 percent in May 2026 compared to April.
