A 33-year-old Ukrainian man has been detained in Thuringia on suspicion of acting as a foreign agent. The Munich State Prosecutor’s Office announced on Thursday that the man was apprehended on August 2nd by operatives from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office and the Thuringian Police. He is accused of serving as a “low-level agent” for a foreign intelligence service, tasked with making recordings at a Bavarian defense company to facilitate preparations for sabotage acts. An investigating judge at the Munich District Court issued an arrest warrant against the accused on August 3rd, which was enforced the same day. The man is currently in pre-trial detention at a Bavarian correctional facility. According to the authorities, the arrest was the result of close cooperation between security services and intelligence agencies under the umbrella of the newly established GAZ-Hybrid. Further details have not been released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
