Under a trilateral memorandum with Israel and the United States, Germany is lending two vehicle scanning systems to Israel. The Federal Ministry of Defense announced on Friday that this measure is intended to significantly increase the import of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. One of the systems is slated to be deployed at the Erez crossing beginning in September, which aims to facilitate the border’s reopening. The second system is expected to become operational at the Ashdod port by the end of the year. Israeli personnel will be responsible for the operation and control of all goods transported into Gaza. For the system at the Erez crossing, two members of the German Bundeswehr will provide on-site technical support until the end of 2026. It is anticipated that this development will improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip through enhanced import capabilities.
