The Central Council of Jews has strongly criticized Green party politician Claudia Roth. According to sources close to the Council, the politician reportedly uses “every means” in her struggle against political irrelevance. These actions allegedly include “the invention of a Jewish conspiracy,” and critics have suggested it is time for the politician to retire.
Roth herself had previously referred to her comments on the war in Gaza, which she made while serving as the Minister of Culture, as a mistake, citing “unfathomable pressure from the Central Council” as the reason. When asked by friends about when she would finally free herself from “the guilt of history,” Roth has since described the situation in the West Bank as “Apartheid.”
Furthermore, her party colleague, Volker Beck, who simultaneously serves as President of the German-Israeli Society, reacted sharply to her remarks. Beck commented in a statement that the “patterns of her statements correspond to a classic German denial of guilt.”
