Police have released further details about the fatal traffic accident that occurred on the B 470 near Dietersheim. According to officials, the deceased in the crash were a 73-year-old female driver and two women, both 69 years old, who were also travelling in the vehicle.
The accident took place on Sunday around 9:30 PM. It involved a 36-year-old Mercedes driver who veered into the oncoming lane, crashing head-on into an Opel carrying the women. Both vehicles were thrown off the road and came to rest in the adjacent fields. The Mercedes driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital via rescue helicopter. An initial alcohol test revealed a reading exceeding one permille.
The Neustadt police inspection conducted the investigation, receiving support from fire and rescue services. The B 470 was closed in both directions for several hours. An expert was called in to help determine the exact cause of the accident.
