During a police operation in Bielefeld on Tuesday, a heavily armed man was shot and killed. According to the Bielefeld Police, the man approached responding officers while holding a weapon, prompting the police to open fire.
The incident began when a woman contacted the dispatch center around 1:00 PM (13:00), reporting that her friend had locked her in an apartment with a weapon. The woman was able to escape from the apartment unharmed. Police responded with numerous units, secured and cordoned off the building on Steubenstraße, and requested specialized intervention forces.
Around 3:20 PM (15:20), the man emerged outside the premises carrying a weapon and charged toward the police officers. The officers then fired upon him, resulting in fatal injuries. The police officers sustained no injuries. Investigations have been initiated, and efforts to identify the deceased are ongoing. The operation at the scene continues.
