Arminia Bielefeld secured a 3-0 victory over Energie Cottbus during the conclusion of the second matchday of the new second division season. The Bielefeld squad was the more offensively proactive team from the start. Joel Grodowski opened the scoring in the 26th minute, capitalizing on an error in the Cottbus build-up. He retrieved the ball and swiftly pushed it into the net on a counter-attack. Before halftime, Grodowski doubled the lead in the 37th minute, again exploiting a costly mistake by the visitors, as he lofted the ball convincingly over the goalkeeper.
In the second half, Cottbus attempted to increase the pressure but struggled to generate any truly significant chances. The Bielefeld defense remained solid, limiting opportunities for the guests. Grodowski sealed the victory in the 76th minute, converting a penalty for the final score.
Looking ahead, the team from Ostwestfalen will participate in the DFB Cup next Saturday against SG Sonnenhof Großaspach, a third-division side. Meanwhile, the Lausitz team is set to face First Division side FC Augsburg in the Cup competition on the same day.
