A child sustained fatal injuries during logging operations in the Bavarian district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. According to police reports released on Wednesday, the accident occurred last Friday. The criminal police department is currently investigating, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
The child, who is in elementary school age, was in a forest area on Friday morning, accompanied by an adult, ostensibly to observe or “assist in child-friendly” ways within the timber harvesting work. Initial findings indicate that shortly after 10 a.m., the child was struck by a falling tree and suffered severe injuries.
A large-scale rescue effort followed, involving the regional emergency service, an emergency doctor, the volunteer fire department, water rescue helpers, and several police units. The child was airlifted by a rescue helicopter to a specialized clinic while undergoing intensive resuscitation measures, but succumbed to the serious injuries there. The investigation into the accident’s sequence of events is ongoing, with investigators currently treating the incident as a tragic accident.
