Ramona Pop, the director of the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations (VZBV), has warned gas customers about potentially rising prices, citing the currently low levels of gas storage. Pop told the Rheinische Post (Thursday edition) that low storage reserves would further intensify the already strained energy market situation during the upcoming heating season, a development that could mean higher energy costs for private households.
The VZBV is closely monitoring gas storage levels as potential challenges for the coming winter arise. Pop noted that purchasing prices for gas have risen significantly since the start of the war in the Middle East.
In response, Pop is advising gas customers to exercise caution. She stressed that consumers should immediately check whether their current contract includes a price guarantee that extends beyond the winter period. According to the VZBV director, this type of contract initially protects against rising costs. Furthermore, Pop recommended that customers compare prices and consider switching to a cheaper provider if possible, a particularly relevant measure for households that are currently on basic supply.
