Former Foreign Policy Expert Michael Roth Joins Lotto Entities to Tackle European and Government Policy Challenges

Former Social Democratic Party (SPD) foreign policy expert and long-serving Member of the Bundestag, Michael Roth, will begin working as a consultant for the German Lottery and Toto Block (DLTB) on October 1st. The DLTB is an association comprising the 16 independent state lottery companies. Roth confirmed his new engagement to Stern, stating, “Yes, that is correct.”

Roth, who founded his own consulting firm, Freedomfighter GmbH, specializing in international and European strategic advice and communications, explained his new responsibilities. “Starting October 1st, I will be advising the German lottery companies in this capacity, particularly regarding European law issues surrounding the monopoly on gambling and the upcoming revision of the state contract,” he told Stern.

The former Bundestag representative views the role as extending far beyond simple lottery numbers. “Lottery in Germany is state-organized, but there has been pressure from Brussels for years towards privatization,” Roth noted about his new venture. He emphasized that the sector funds significantly more than just games; approximately 3.4 billion euros annually are allocated to support sports, culture, and social programs. “I am happy to contribute my experience to that,” Roth said. He added that he plans to continue participating in political debates as a citizen, publishing, giving lectures, and remaining involved in public affairs.

Roth previously served in the Bundestag for nearly 27 years, holding numerous positions, most recently chairing the Foreign Affairs Committee.
