The BSW parliamentary group in the Thuringian state parliament has clarified that it will not vote in favor of the constructive vote of no confidence repeatedly requested by the AfD against their state leader, Björn Höcke, this Friday. Sigrid Hupach, head of the BSW faction, stated on Wednesday that this special plenum is merely a “show event.” She further criticized Höcke, claiming that he represents, more than anyone else, the nationalistic ideology of the AfD. Hupach emphasized, “We will not entrust our country to this man. The BSW faction will vote unanimously against [the motion] on Friday.” She added that the AfD is not a political partner for the BSW. Currently, the BSW is part of a governing coalition in Thuringia alongside the CDU and SPD. This coalition, however, is strained due to a conflict with the leadership of the BSW at the federal level, which demanded the party’s withdrawal from the coalition. Two BSW members of the state parliament subsequently agreed with this call.
