CDU spokeswoman Nina Warken stated that the proposed transition to retirement at the age of 63 will not take immediate effect. She clarified that there will be necessary transition periods in place before the new rules are implemented. Furthermore, Warken announced that specific hardship regulations will be introduced for those with particular life circumstances, such as individuals who have held unique professions or who have disabilities. These rules require a detailed assessment to ensure appropriate guidelines are established.
She noted that the concern over transition and exception rules is shared by East German state premiers. Warken affirmed that this is not contradictory, as the recommendations put forward by the age security commission already include these provisions, which they deem a “good overall package.”
The Chancellery stressed that while the package is positive, they do not intend to debate it in detail before a specific bill is presented. Instead, they emphasize the need for the Working and Social Ministry to submit a comprehensive law. Once this legislation is in place, it will be reviewed by the federal government and subsequently debated in parliament. Despite the need for legislative process, Warken emphasized that the retirement age of 63 is a central component of this entire package.
