DAK Questions Pace and Feasibility of Major Nursing Care Reform Commission

Andreas Storm, the head of the DAK-Gesundheit health insurance fund, welcomed the launch of the care commission but expressed skepticism about its ability to deliver a viable concept by the end of January. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post,” Storm explicitly supported the start of the new commission and its mandate, though he described the assignment before the body as an “Herculean task.” The commission must design a comprehensive reform of the long-term care insurance with an entirely new system architecture. He admitted that he has not yet grasped how a comprehensive and sound reform concept could be presented within the short timeframe leading up to the end of January. Storm referenced the critical challenge, reminding readers that Health Minister Linnemann first declared in a September interview that the current care system was not fit for the future and risked collapsing in the 2030s without a profound reform.
