The DAX experienced further declines on Wednesday afternoon, after facing a weak start. At around 12:30 PM, the index sheet in the Frankfurt Stock Exchange Hall registered 25,750 points, marking a 0.9 percent drop compared to the previous day’s closing figures.
Among the securities that saw the sharpest decreases, Volkswagen stock was notably affected. Facing a looming auto industry crisis and ongoing disputes regarding factory closures, the automaker dropped by over three percent. Zalando and GEA also experienced comparable declines in their share prices.
In contrast, crude oil prices rose. By midday on Wednesday, a barrel of North Sea Brent-grade oil cost $94.86 US dollars. This represents an increase of 21 cents, or 0.2 percent, from the close of the preceding trading session. Such movement fuels concerns regarding persistent inflation and the resulting potential rise in interest rates, which is considered detrimental to stock market valuations.
The European common currency also weakened during the Wednesday afternoon trading. The Euro was trading at $1.1571, meaning the US Dollar could be obtained for 0.8642 Euros.
