Terminal 1 at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) was vacated on Thursday evening following a “dangerous goods alarm.” According to an airport spokesperson speaking to the dts news agency, the federal police triggered the alarm around 5:45 PM due to suspicion of a hazardous substance, necessitating the evacuation of the public areas of Terminal 1 for security reasons.
By 7:30 PM, a federal police officer confirmed to the dts agency that the terminal closure remained in effect. Initially, the evening saw no reports of flight cancellations, except for a Eurowings flight scheduled for Stuttgart; various aircraft continued to take off.
A spokesperson later clarified that planes ready for service could still depart, and aircraft currently approaching could continue landing. To manage the operation, services were being redeployed to Terminal 2 as much as possible. “The procedures are running in an orderly fashion,” the spokesperson stated.
