US defense startup Covenant plans to begin mass production of its “Anthem” cruise missile system in Saxony starting in early 2027. The corporation announced on Wednesday that Anthem is a weapons system designed for high payload and long range, intended for series production in thousands of units. A key selling point of Anthem is that it offers this capability at a fraction of the cost compared to older, comparable systems.
While production in the United States is set to take place in a new facility in Dallas, where the series production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027, initial annual production capacity will start at 1,000 missiles, gradually increasing toward 5,000 units per year. Covenant also operates a facility of similar size in Saxony, along with a slightly smaller plant in northern Israel.
Michael Kaufman, co-founder and CEO of Covenant, stated that Anthem was developed to put credible pressure on targets during a protracted conflict. He noted that observing their opponents reveals “thousands of well-protected targets that lie outside the range of current capabilities.”
