Berlin Requests Public Understanding of Massive Security Measures Surrounding UAE Sheikh’s Visit

The German government has appealed to the public for understanding regarding the massive security preparations implemented during the visit of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Speaking to the dts Nachrichtenagentur on Friday, Deputy Government Spokesman Steffen Meyer stated, “We can only ask for understanding, and we hope there will be understanding that we want to guarantee security here.” He added that the government also understood the difficulties faced by residents of Berlin, particularly those who have been repeatedly affected by road safety measures.

Meyer dismisses allegations that the unusually high level of security was intended to deter demonstrators or simply to flatter the Sheikh. “I do not know of these accusations,” he firmly stated. Meyer concluded by expressing his confidence that if the security authorities deemed the measures necessary, there must be “good reasons” for doing so.
