Berlin SPD leader and top candidate Steffen Krach has called for a tougher approach against criminals and alleged supporters of terrorism in Berlin, implicitly holding the far-left party accountable in the process. His call comes in response to recent reporting in “Der Spiegel”, which reportedly indicated that top candidate Elif Eralp fears suspected supporters of terrorism. Speaking to “Die Welt”, Krach emphasized, “The security of Berlin is paramount, and it is perfectly clear that we must proceed with full severity against organized crime and those supporting terrorism.” He further stated that to achieve this, the SPD will reinforce the police and domestic intelligence services. Krach demanded that all politicians must demonstrate this same level of clarity. “Whoever wants to govern this city must clearly identify threats and protect Berlin from them. Neither clan bosses nor individuals like Ibrahim Ibrahim should have any sway in Berlin.”
